Brazil will increase its crude production in the coming months, adding 300,000 b/d "by the end of the year," the country's minister of mines and energy Bento Albuquerque said today at the IEA's 2022 ministerial meeting.

"This represents an increase of 10pc in our current output," Albuquerque said. Brazil produces around 3mn b/d of crude, around a third of which is exported.

His words were greeted with applause from the US energy secretary Jennifer Granholm.

"We recognise that this is an emergency that we are in, on wartime footing," Granholm said, thanking Albuquerque for the announcement.

Brazil is also moving forward with renewable energy, Albuquerque said. The government has approved new regulation for offshore wind and expects solar generation to move from 8GW to 40GW in the next 10 years.
