UK removes more countries from travel corridor

The UK government has removed more destinations from its list of quarantine-free countries, adding pressure to an already weak outlook for jet fuel demand.

Travellers arriving in England from the Netherlands, France, Monaco, Malta, Aruba and the Turks and Caicos Islands will now have to self-isolate for two weeks, after health experts indicated "a significant change in Covid-19 risk in all 6 destinations", the government said. The updated travel restrictions will come into force tomorrow.

The UK recently removed Belgium, Andorra, the Bahamas, Spain and Luxembourg from its travel corridor list amid concerns about a second spike in infections imported from abroad.

Industry lobby group Airlines UK described the decision to remove more countries from the quarantine-free list as "another devastating blow to the travel industry already reeling from the worst crisis in its history". But the UK's flagship carrier British Airways has said it will continue flying to the affected destinations as normal.

Uncertainty over which countries the UK might remove from its travel corridor list next is putting extra pressure on already constrained travel demand during the peak summer holiday season.

Northwest European jet fuel margins to North Sea Dated crude receded to a 74¢/bl discount yesterday, compared with a 70¢/bl premium at the end of July.
