Wildfires reported in Lytton, British Columbia (BC), Canada, have caused delays and disruptions to operations at the Port of Vancouver.

"Rail traffic into Port of Vancouver has been interrupted, although it is starting to move again at reduced speeds and under fire mitigation measures. Some traffic is being rerouted to the more northerly port of Prince Rupert," Wood Pellet Association of Canada's (WPAC) executive director, Gordon Murray, told Argus.

The entire rail system is congested, Murray added, which has caused a backlog of vessels in the port, with a lack of anchorages for all the vessels.

UK utility Drax, through its acquisition of Canadian wood pellet producer Pinnacle, relies on the port for wood pellet exports. But the wildfires have caused no significant changes to its operations, it said.
