US refining margins were mixed this week as regional crude and diesel prices rose.

US Gulf coast margins, as measured by a 3-2-1 West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crack spread, narrowed from last week's gains as crude prices ticked higher and gasoline values declined.

Average crack spreads in the region fell during the week by 92¢/bl to $29.45/bl, with WTI crude prices climbing by $1.49/bl to $72.81/bl. Gulf coast conventional 87 finished gasoline prices shed 2.39¢/USG to average $2.417/bl, while Gulf coast diesel rose by 7.11¢/USG to $2.428/USG.

US Atlantic coast refining margins fell this week as lower gasoline prices and higher crude prices outweighed higher diesel values. The Atlantic coast 3-2-1 crack spread using North Sea dated crude prices narrowed by about 1.3pc this week to $33.99/bl.

New York harbor RBOB gasoline prices decreased on the week by about 3¢/USG to $2.63/USG on average, while ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) prices rose to $2.53/USG, up from $2.43/USG last week.

North Sea Dated crude prices averaged $75.06/bl this week, up by $1.04/bl from last week.

At the US midcontinent, Group Three, which supplies much of the Great Plains, refining margins widened as rising products prices outpaced higher crude values. The WTI 3-2-1 crack spread at Group Three averaged $33.23/bl, an increase of $0.66/bl from the previous week.

Group Three suboctane gasoline prices rose by 4.43¢/USG to an average of $2.48/USG. Group Three ULSD averaged $2.45/USG, up by 4.61¢/USG on the week. WTI prices at Group Three averaged $70.67/bl, an increase of $1.23/bl on the week.

Chicago refining margins narrowed on steep decreases in CBOB gasoline prices and rising crude values. The Western Canadian Select (WCS) 6-3-2-1 crack spread at Chicago averaged $34.65/bl, down by $2.68/bl from the previous week.

Chicago CBOB prices fell by 6.12¢/USG on the week to $2.40/USG, while Chicago ULSD averaged $2.37/USG, an increase of 0.03¢/USG from last week. WCS prices at Chicago rose by $1.47/bl to $60.07/bl.

The Los Angeles crack spread — calculated using Alaskan North Slope (ANS) crude prices based on a 5-3-1-1 yield — fell by 8.2pc since last Friday. Refining margins decreased on the week to an average $27.32/bl, down from $29.75/bl in the prior week.

Los Angeles CARBOB gasoline differentials fell during the week to end at June Nymex +10.83¢/USG, as cash prices averaged $2.70/USG, down by 7¢/USG from the prior week. In-state Los Angeles CARB diesel cash prices increased by 3.9pc to average $2.51/USG for the week.

ANS crude prices increased to $77.56/bl on average, up from $75.96/bl last week.

The Los Angeles jet fuel crack spread calculated using ANS prices rose this week by 27pc to $38.11/bl, up from $30.08/bl last week.
