London, 28 January (Argus) — Turkish refiner Tupras has today awarded its February-loading e-tender for more than 15,000t of sulphur in small lots priced at $510-536/t fca, against its previous January-loading tender at $489-498/t fca. From Izmir, 4,750t of bulk sulphur in lots ranging 50t to 750t was awarded at $530-532/t fca. From Izmit, 9,600t of bulk, liquid and big bag sulphur in lots ranging from 25t to 1,200t was awarded at $529-536/t fca. From Kirikkale, 1,500t of sulphur in lots ranging from 200t to 600t was awarded at $510-512/t fca. The latest price range is up by nearly $30/t compared with the previous e-tender. London, 28 January (Argus) — Southern Germany-based sulphur consumer Kelheim Fibres will close its operations by 31 March. The company had been under self-administration while seeking private investment to continue operating, but these efforts were unsuccessful, it said in a 26 January press release. A previous announcement in November signalled a planned closure , although a potential investor was subsequently interested in financing ongoing operations. An orderly shutdown is now being initiated. Kelheim Fibres is a small sulphur consumer, with around 15,000-20,000 t/yr demand, and also supplies some excess sulphuric acid to the local market. The firm's usual sulphur supplier is Bayernoil's Vohburg-Neustadt refinery, which has 97,000 t/yr of sulphur capacity. Europe's chemical industry is facing high regional energy costs, elevated raw material prices, and competition from cheaper imports of many downstream products. This is increasing the risk of consolidation across the industry, as operating losses make production unviable for some facilities. Adds information about offers Singapore, 27 January (Argus) — State-owned Pupuk Indonesia closed a tender to buy a total of 40,000t of bulk standard caprolactam-grade amsul for delivery over February-November 2026 to its subsidiary Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT). Pupuk Indonesia has requested that offers be submitted on a formula price with a variable discount. Discounts ranging at $5-6/t were offered by a trading firm, market participants said, although this was not confirmed by the companies involved. The tender received at least 4 offers from trading firms, with the highest discount indicated at $5-6/t. Awards are pending. PKT has requested four single shipments of 10,000t each to Bontang port. The first shipment should be loaded by the third week of February, followed by one shipment each in June, September and November. Singapore, 27 January (Argus) — State-owned fertilizer group Pupuk Indonesia has signed an initial agreement with Algerian phosphate mining company Somiphos for up to 1mn t/yr of phosphate rock, the company announced on 26 January. The agreement is still in its early stages and a timeline has not been discussed yet, Somiphos said. Somiphos currently has 2mn t/yr phosphate rock production capacity, and plans to expand by 500,000 t/yr over two years to reach 3mn t/yr in 2027. Indonesia currently relies entirely on imports for its phosphates needs. Indonesia imported 1.4mn t of phosphate rock in January-November 2025, with more than 60pc from Jordan, according to Global Trade Tracker (GTT) data. The country previously imported 169,000t of phosphate rock from Algeria in 2024 via traders, but did not import any volumes in 2025. Phosphate rock is an important raw material for fertilizers in Indonesia, both as a direct application fertilizer and for NPK production. Increased phosphate rock imports from Algeria will strengthen Indonesia's raw material supply for fertilizer production and supports the country's goal of sustainable food self-sufficiency, Pupuk said.
