Unlocking Asia’s carbon market to supercharge growth opportunities across the global value chain

Delves into the 4 primary drivers of the carbon ecosystem—national programmes, compliance markets, the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and voluntary corporate demand. There will be a special focus on biochar, examining its industrial applications and its potential integration with other carbon removal technologies.

Roble Velasco-Rosenheim
Director-APAC, I-REC Standard Foundation

Roble has a decade of experience supporting clean energy development in Asia and the Pacific. He is the Director of Partnerships and APAC Markets for the I-REC Standard Foundation, and the founder of SuSca Group.

Through these roles, Roble focuses on opening up new, credible, clean electricity markets—linking actors across the public and private sectors to scale up renewable energy generation.

Roble has supported dozens of governments and utilities to engage in EAC markets around the globe. He also works regularly with electricity producers and consumers to bring new products to market—most recently, he’s focused on regional transaction structures and supply chain solutions.
Overall, Roble is passionate about bridging public and private sector interests to support high-yield, low-carbon economic growth.

Junya Takahashi
Team Leader of CCUS Team and Energy Innovation Initiative, Sumitomo Corporation

After graduating from Waseda University in 1999, Junya joined Sumitomo, working in new business development and corporate services in logistics. After returning from London in 2019, he worked in the Corporate Planning and Co-ordination Department where was involved in sustainability policy and management planning. He was involved in establishing the Energy Innovation Initiative, with the aim of building a decarbonised and recycling-oriented energy society. Since January 2023, has served as leader of the CCUS team and is currently working on CCUS business development in Japan and elsewhere.

Boon Piew Ng
GM Nature Based Solution (NBS) Portfolio & Growth, Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd

Shell’s NBS focus is on development of high-quality natural carbon sinks with environmental and social benefits, novel nature-based markets and customer solutions that can contribute to climate change mitigation and net zero ambitions. Shell NBS invests in activities that protect, manage and restore ecosystems, including forest, agriculture, wetland, grassland, and coastal zones, working closely with local communities, governments, NGOs and others. Boon joined Shell in 1993 and has over 25 years’ experience in business development and commercial roles in countries including Malaysia, the UK, Indonesia, China and Singapore.

Deanna Tan
Deputy Director - Carbon Mitigation, Ministry of Trade & Industry - Singapore

Deanna Tan joined the climate change and sustainability team at the Singapore Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) in December 2022. In her current role as Deputy Director for Carbon Mitigation (Carbon Markets), Deanna oversees MTI’s strategies to support and source for carbon credits to meet Singapore’s national mitigation targets. She has also worked on driving Singapore’s G2G Implementation Agreements for Carbon Credits Collaboration aligned with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Prior to joining MTI, Deanna was at the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), where she worked on policy formulation and business development across a range of sectors, including cruise, MICE (business events), Integrated Resorts, and the FORMULA 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

Norihiro Kimura
Senior Negotiator for Climate Change, GX Policy Group

Norihiro Kimura joined METI in 2002. He received Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) from Georgetown University in 2010. Since 2010, he has been engaged in international relations related to climate change and energy policy at METI. From 2010 to 2013, 2015 to 2017, he worked on international emission trading under the Kyoto Protocol and establishment of the JCM (Joint Crediting Mechanism) as well as Technology Mechanism (TEC and CTCN) under the UNFCCC. From 2013 to 2015, He served as a JPO for the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn, Germany, where he supported multilateral negotiations on market mechanisms. From 2019 to 2022, he was engaged in international cooperation on energy efficiency and renewable energy. Since May 2022, he has been responsible for climate change negotiations such UNFCCC and IPCC, promoting JCM in line with Article 6.2 of Paris Agreement, and leading public-private cooperation on clean energy with ASEAN (CEFIA).
