Toshimasa Masuyama joined the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) as a bioenergy analyst in 2018 where his responsibilities include assessing and realising the potential of sustainable resources. He is also the acting lead of the bioenergy programme at IRENA, which includes a biomass project on strategies for bioenergy production in southeast Asia. He was previously deputy director of the International Forestry Cooperation Office, Forestry Agency of Japan where he served as Japan’s main contact point for international forest-related representation such as the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Global Forest Resources Assessment of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Yoshinobu Kusano joined RENOVA as Executive Advisor in 2017. From January 2018 he has been Head of Fuel Procurement Group, Biomass Energy of RENOVA. Before joining RENOVA, he worked for Sumitomo Corporation head office in Overseas Transport Division, Living & Material Division, as well as Pulp & Paper Division. During that period, he has been involved in start-up of overseas plantation forest management and operation joint venture as Director. From 2003, he has intensively focused on biomass fuel development and sourcing as a head of Biomass Group of Sumitomo Corporation. He holds a BA in Law from Waseda university.

He has pioneered Biomass fired district heating systems in Austria and conversion of coal fired systems to biomass in former socialist countries. The first internet based biomass trading platform (ABEX) was started by him in 1999. Until 2010 he led the international biomass trading company EBES creating numerous intercontinental supply chains for palm kernel shell, pellets and wood chips. From 2007 he took a leading position in torrefaction technology development forming also a consortium with Andritz AG. In 2012 he helped setting up within AEBIOM the International Biomass Torrefaction Council IBTC whose members elected him president. Also from 2012 on he has been supporting Bridgewell Resources Ltd in developing their Biomass desk acting as their European Sales Manger.
