10:15 - 10:45

Asia’s trading must-know: Why the EU’s CBAM is integral to the future success and international competitiveness of Asia’s fertilizer production and export business

CBAM (carbon border adjustment mechanism) is a tool implemented to put a fair price on carbon emitted during the production of carbon intensive goods entering the EU. This is designed to encourage cleaner industrial production in countries outside the EU and prevent carbon leakage in supply chains.

- Fertilizers, along with hydrogen, have been identified as two of the six carbon intensive industries and at risk of carbon leakage, and as such exports from the Middle East and Asia will be subjected to CBAM procedures.
- Why do Asian fertilizer producers need to know about CBAM? Understanding scope 1,2 & 3 emissions, and why it is so important that Asia remains competitive in a global export market.
- How will the CBAM be enforced and what are the next steps to take for Asian producers and traders?
